Treasure Hunting with GPSr

Today's treasure hunting is all about high tech gear and fun! Many gems are found along the way.

Found Deer While Treasure HuntingMy daughter and I have hit
the road many times without a destination. We always find something we didn't know existed and are in awe at the beauty just off the main roads. Just outside of Nashville in the built-up higher-end neighborhood of Brentwood, we found one of the most beautiful parks complete with hiking trails, a lake, and lots of wildlife! This trip alone was worth every penny I have ever spent on gear!

There is of course other treasure to find when geocaching! How about a Jeep? Yes way! Jeep is one of many companies who have been targeting geocachers as a way to advertise. They are joining the fun and adding some big treasures to the mix so keep an eye out cause there will be many more.

Many people have joined in with their community to add a little extra to the game. CITO known as Cache In Trash Out is our way of giving back to the areas we visit. Just bring a bag along and take some trash with you when you leave. A simple but amazingly effective way to clean up an area.

FTF or First To Find is a game in and of itself. The goal is to be the first person to find a cache. This is HIGHLY competitive! Why? Well, because Giant Geocachepeople tend to put some cool stuff in their cache when they first place it out there. They've taken the time to scout out a cool spot for it and now they want people to come, right? The best way to do that is to make it appealing by adding a little something special for the FTF. These have included mp3 players, tickets to concerts or sports events, cameras, etc. There is one cache that I will not tell where! It has a car load full of stuff!

You do not have to go far to hunt treasure. Many of our most prized finds have been within the areas surrounding where we live. Treasure hunting brings neat places to see, fun hikes, wildlife, amazing views, quality time with friends and family. These are among the many gems along the GPS hunt. What treasure will you find on YOUR journey?

Gather treasure hunting info before you head out on your first trip. You don't want to start off breaking any rules or rush out to buy a GPS that won't work for this sport.

Geocaching guidelines will be very helpful in keeping you safe while out there. There are many good reasons for the rules so follow them carefully.
